Why have lower back tattoos become all the rage? They are seen as a way to stress the attractiveness and sexuality of the female body, which is why many young women are drawn to them. However, it is for this reason that they are extremely controversial as well; many opponents believe lower back tattoos to be sordid and promiscuous.
These tattoos are also popular because the lower back provides enough space for a somewhat larger design, particularly if the design is horizontal. Also, the skin on the lower back is not very likely to become out of shape due to fluctuations in weight loss or gain. This means the shape of the tattoo will be less likely to fade and warp.
There are some medical worries connected with getting a lower back tattoo. It has been questioned in recent years whether or not it is safe to give an epidural to a pregnant woman who has a lower back tattoo. However, there is no scientific or medical proof to support these worries and so doctors continue to administer epidurals to women with these tattoos.

Another widespread type of back tattoo is a backpiece and these are more commonly worn among men. Backpieces are back tattoos that cover the complete back. They are enormously time consuming; one might take two weeks of daily two hour sessions to finish, depending on the sophistication of the art work. Also, these tattoos are extremely expensive. One backpiece tattoo can cost many thousands of dollars.
Back To Self Expression
Perhaps back tattoos are most widespread because they permit for more freedom when it comes to self expression. With more area to work with, and the ability to hide the tattoo, the back is the perfect choice for tattoo placement.
